James M. Tinjum, PE, PhD, is an associate professor at Engineering Professional Development, University of Wisconsin–Madison. Prior to his engagement as a faculty member at UW–Madison in 2008, Dr. Tinjum worked for 13 years in private practice (consulting and industry) in Denver, Madison, Peoria, and Philadelphia.

He has specialized technical knowledge in geotechnical and remedial investigation, slope stability analysis and design, and field engineering/construction management. In applied practice and research, Dr. Tinjum has specific, applied expertise in thermal geotechnics for energy facilities including buried cable design and geothermal exchange systems.
