Outreach Communications Specialist

Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, adult education, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

The position requires a minimum two years of marketing communications experience with a record of increasing responsibility, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with the principles and practices of marketing in a higher education institutional setting is preferred. Experience with social media, content management systems and learning support systems are a plus. Experience in working with technical disciplines is desirable.
 

Principal duties:

Become a member of the internationally recognized team at the Department of Engineering Professional Development (EPD) in the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The department annually conducts several hundred technology-oriented continuing education programs and seminars featuring latest research findings and current best practices across a variety of technical disciplines. Our courses are offered in Madison, throughout the U.S. and over the Internet. EPD is a leader in providing online master’s degrees in engineering. The department is financially self-supporting.

The selected candidate’s principal responsibilities are:

–Develop integrated marketing plans supporting graduate degree programs and professional development seminars.
–Conduct market research and develop strategic plans, manage marketing channels and tactics, prioritize projects and deadlines, and measure program effectiveness.
–Assure that marketing communications serve to advance the UW and departmental brand strategies.
–Manage production calendars to assure timely execution of marketing activities.
–Engages degree and certificate faculty, program directors, and EPD staff in the design, development, and execution of marketing plans.
–Implement measurement systems and reporting structures to assess the ongoing efficacy of marketing strategies and tactics.
–Manage the development and implementation of informational, recruiting and content webinars.
–Evaluation and management of the effectiveness of selected communication channels and content while identifying opportunities for increased marketing effectiveness along with web search engine optimization are priorities of this position.The position requires an understanding of higher education markets and practices, as well as an appreciation of the challenges associated with the development and delivery of continuing education to working professionals in a variety of engineering and technical disciplines.
